Appalachia Service Project Each summer FUMC has a mission trip to Appalachia. Appalachia Service Project is a home repair ministry that works to make homes warmer, safer and dryer for the low-income families in Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. Last year we took 22 volunteers and worked on three homes, and this year we are hoping to take a fourth crew! ASP is open to adults of any age and youth who are currently in or will be entering high school as of next summer. For more information, see John Blimling or e-mail him at john.blimling@gmail.com
Here's some pictures from the 2010 trip:
What is ASP? ASP (Appalachia Service Project) is a Christian ministry, open to all people, that addresses the housing needs of Central Appalachian counties in Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia, and West Virginia. The project was founded in 1969, and has held the same philosophy since: ASP encourages people to act responsibly in the face of human need and injustice while guided by faith. Nearly 15,000 volunteers join the project working on homes each summer. Their help, along with gracious donations, have helped make this project a success for so many years. Volunteers of all ages and skill levels are encouraged to join in this wonderful outreach ministry.
