Choir News and Notes

Hi everyone. I just thought with the choir season approaching that I would let everyone know a bit about our choir. We are hoping to increase our membership this year and we need YOU! Our goal is a choir of: 8 sopranos, 8 altos, 5 tenors and 5 basses. Of course we will take more.

Membership

Chancel Choir is open to all adults and students high school age on up. You do not need any experience in choir, just a desire to sing and a willingness to learn. If you are unsure about what part you sing we can discuss that. Remember that with your membership we include free use of music, a robe, and a guaranteed place to sit.

Rehearsals

Rehearsals are every Wednesday night from 6:30-7:30pm. I can assure you we do start at 6:30 and I will get you out of there by 7:30. Everyone’s time is important and I will not waste yours by starting late, or holding you later. And no, we do not do 20 minutes of warm ups!

The 1 st rehearsal is Wednesday September 8. It has been asked, “Can you sing and still miss a rehearsal?” Yes. If you miss a Wednesday you can still sing the following Sunday. We realize that we are all busy people. I try to practice an anthem for a few weeks before we sing, so hopefully everyone is comfortable. Can you sing in the choir and never attend rehearsal? Well – Uh -- No. Sorry.

Schedule

The choir sings at the 10:30 service most Sundays. We take one Sunday off each month. Usually it is the last Sunday, but this year that schedule will vary a bit. Here is our schedule for the rest of 2009.

September 12- Choir Anthem

September 19- Choir Anthem

September 26- No Choir- special music needed

October 10- Choir Anthem

October 17- Choir Anthem

October 24- No Choir- special music needed

October 31- Choir Anthem

November 7- Communion Choir anthem

November 14- No Choir

November 21- Choir Anthem with brass

November 28- Advent Choir Anthem

December 5- Advent /Communion Choir Anthem

December 12- No Choir

December 19- Christmas Choir Anthem

December 24- Christmas Choir Anthem at the 11:00pm service

December 26- No Choir- special music needed

Some people like to make a commitment for just a certain part of the year. We are all OK with that. If you just want to sing for the holiday season, you would have to start attending rehearsals by December 1. Hopefully you will enjoy the group so much that you will come back!

Special Music

Do you sing? Play an instrument? Tap dance? Juggle? Kazoo? Have a vuvuzela? Special music is needed throughout the season and in the summer. If you are interested, please contact me at dkapralian@yahoo.com or contact the church office to volunteer your time. I will try to keep a clipboard with a schedule in the office.

Well that is all I have for now. I will try to write again in January or when choir updates warrant. Thanks for reading and hope to see you in September.
