Adult Book Class

9:15 a.m. • Chris Glennon, Leader

Beginning on Sunday, September 7th, Chris Glennon’s adult book class will be reading and discussing “The Sins of Scripture: Exposing the Bible’s Texts of Hate to Reveal the God of Love” by John Shelby Spong. An Episcopal Bishop, Spong has been an important and respected voice in progressive American Christianity for the past 25 years or more. The back of the book reads thus: “The Bible contains many passages that believers and nonbelievers alike would recognize as appalling theology. Whether these texts are used to discriminate, oppress, or condemn, they distort the truth of Christianity and cast doubt upon the love of God… Spong addresses these passages, shattering our misconceptions and delivering a new vision of how Christians today can use the Bible.” Topics such as the environment, women, homosexuality, children and anit-Semitism are covered in this book.
