Sunday School 2009 - 2010
The 2009-10 Sunday School year kicks off on Rally Day, September 13. This year’s curriculum is based on the theme of “People Are the Church”. We are the people of the church and we each have special gifts and talents. We will be looking at the people in the Bible and how they used the talents God gave them, and then try to determine how to identify and use the talents God has given each of us.
The preschool (beginning at age 3) and kindergarten children will be doing independent study with their teachers, Tim and Betsy Bauer. There will be many fun and creative ways to learn about God and Jesus. This group will also have their own part in the Christmas Program this year.
The rotational Sunday School classes are for first through fifth grade. We will begin the year with a 4 week rotation entitled “What Makes My Church Special.” We will then venture through the parable of the talents and how we use what we have been given to do God’s work in the world. Our next rotation deals with the symbols of Christmas. We will learn how the Christmas decorations we put up at home and at church show that we are Christians and how they are a part of the Christmas story.
We will start 2010 by looking at the creation story and how we are called by God to be good stewards of God’s beautiful creation. We will then look at “The Twelve Who Changed the World”; namely the 12 disciples. We will learn how these were 12 ordinary people, from all different backgrounds and temperments, but Jesus was able to use all of them to further the work of God on earth and to help spread the good news and love of God in the world. From there we will look at Easter and at the fact that we are the Body of Christ in the world today.
As usual, we’ll be looking at all these ideas in workshops such as art, crafts, science, drama, and cooking, to name a few. It is going to be a year full of learning and fun for everyone at FUMC!
Sunday School meets each Sunday from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. in the church’s basement. |
