Knit Wits

Sue Fritsche and Pastor Ann Peterson began a knitting/crocheting group in the fall of 2004 and this was the beginning of the Prayer Shawl Ministry at Franksville United Methodist Church.  The first Prayer Shawl was blessed and presented in December of 2004.

The group consisted of a few women from the church that enjoyed knitting and crocheting and named themselves the “Knit Wits.”

They meet on Wednesdays from 1 - 3 P.M. as follows:

1st and 4th Wednesday of the month at Church in the Ellis Lounge

3rd Wednesday on the month at the Gracious Gifts Coffee Shop

(No meeting on the 2nd Wednesday of the month)

New members are always welcome!

Their Mission

The Prayer Shawl Ministry is the first priority of the group, but in addition to meeting and filling the needs for Prayer Shawls, they also use their talents to create many other things.

To date they have completed, had blessed and delivered 140 Prayer Shawls.  Our pastors and staff have blessed the shawls and delivered many of them personally.  They also bless everything else that is created by the Knit Wits.  Other projects completed are items for our Christmas families, mittens, children’s hats for three Racine schools, newborn hats for new babies at Wheaton Franciscan Health Care Center, lap robes for Veteran’s Homes in Union Grove and Milwaukee; red scarves for the National Orphans Society; baby blankets and preemie hats for mission and various items for HALO.

We welcome anyone that would like to join us and share his or her talents.  The group is very talented and always willing to share their talents with others that would like to learn to knit or crochet.
